Storytelling has become a popular international entertainment method where people relate oral histories of life experiences. Having gained recognition through “The Moth” as well as other publicly-broadcast stages, Storytelling has become a global entertainment and emotionally respected revealing.

The CDRP Storytelling Intensive will provide students with the capability of understanding storytelling, methods, writing , editing, stage presence, and more.

Justin Flowers has been hosting Storytelling events in the Chicagoland area for many years. Most recently he has brought Storytelling to the inmate population at the Cook County Correctional Institute.

All of us retain and create stories of our lives and those told to us by family and friends. We share emotional conflicts, accomplishments and practical situations that help us grow. As we re-tell our tales humor often breaks through in ways that we didn’t anticipate. Hearing others speak and relate intimate and life stories make us all realize we are people sharing the same planet with similar but different stories to share.

Justin will help you mature your storytelling capabilities

This is a weekend intensive starting at 6:00 PM Friday evening and continuing on both Saturday and Sunday 12:00- PM - 6:00 PM.

Chicago Demo Reel Productions will film the conclusion presentation and all participants will receive a copy of the class storytelling show.

Character Study Intensive Two Full Saturdays

Billy Sullivan // Instructor

Billy Sullivan // Instructor

A “character” is more than just the role an actor portrays. Characters are sometimes more than traits, quirks and behaviors. Characters are multi-dimensional, have physicality, emotions and their brand of knowledge and insight. Creating a believable character extends well beyond the service.

Actors are also multi-dimensional. Development processes of character as unique as the individual(s) playing them.

This workshop will focus on finding who your characters are on multiple levels. It will also help create and spark creative ways of bringing any character (from the grand to the modest) to life in a believable way.

Dance - Compositional Improvisation as Performance INTENSIVE

If you consider life as a space where constant choices are made and actions follow, improvisation would be the tool of the trade. It increases awareness in performance, space, and everyday life. However, one must understand that Improvisation does require a certain amount of commitment because the choices that are made as a single person or a group can, and will, affect the overall performance.

We like to think of life as a sketch, where choices constantly build the experience of what our present reality is. Asking for what is necessary in this time and space and what is not. Learning to compose the architecture, actions, and energy of us.

This has led improvisation to become a tool to guide us on and off stage. A tool that can help us commit and continue living in the present. Giving us the sublime experience of reality and taking responsibility for what we leave in the space. An honest practice of increasing awareness and becoming to know the in’s and out’s of our bodies, and the groups bodies. We move to access our wholeness and notice what’s left.

Through rigorous activities , Compositional Improvisations as Performance Intensive, will help you develop a sense of mental stamina, conditioning, commitment, quick choice making and responsibility. All of these tools will help you better choices as a performer, regardless of your trade/art.

Stand Up Comedy 101 Intensive

Bill Gorgo // Instructor

Bill Gorgo // Instructor

Everyone thinks they’re a stand up comedian. Why? Because we make our family and friends laugh when we tell a good story, or joke, or limerick. Sharing the power of language to get a reaction of laughter always brings joy to the person choosing the right words, for the right audience, at the right time.

You may not see yourself standing in a dark comedy club with bright lights your eyes in front of a packed house. But then again, maybe you do.

Bill Gorgo has entertained audiences and taught stand up comedy from the early days of stand up recognition in Chicago. Bill is a master teacher having performed with , and taught, comedy legends across the country.

This CDRP Stand Up Intensive will allow you to write, edit, and perform in front of audiences, family, and friends, with confidence and stage presence.

This CDRP Stand Up Intensive will teach students to write, edit, and perform in front of audiences more confidently and with a greater stage presence.
